DEIMOS Space Romania, together with its partner ATD AEROSPACE RS SRL, has the objective to further develop and mature technology for TAEM and Descent & Landing (D&L) GNC that could be applied to future European space applications.
The following technical objectives are identified for the RevlanGNC project:
Consolidate the GNC solutions from REVLANSYS according to state-of-art TAEM and Descent and Landing requirements – GNC consolidation will be carried out at both subsystem level and prototypes/algorithms level. The GNC requirements identified in REVLANSYS will be the starting point of the consolidation of the prototypes, as well as the main lessons learned and open points. State-of-art application cases should be reviewed focusing in particular on the parafoil D&L phase, and required improvements should be injected, if beneficial to the solution. Autonomy, robustness, and adaptability to relevant TAEM and D&L applications will drive the consolidation of the REVLANSYS prototypes. The REVLANSYS Descent and Landing G&N solution will be the starting point in the development of the complete G-N-C algorithms for a parafoil D&L system. Verification and test scenarios will also be defined according to the application cases identified and the consolidated TAEM and D&L GNC requirements.

Verify the GNC performance in relevant TAEM and Descent and Landing scenarios in SIL/PIL test environment, to achieve TRL 4/5 – GNC software (SW) will be designed starting from the consolidated TAEM and D&L GNC solutions. GNC SW prototype auto-coding, analysis, and testing will be carried out to assure a reliable final product to be integrated in the OBSW/ASW. Verification and test scenarios will be defined to allow GNC verification and testing in relevant scenarios, and the PIL development carried out accordingly, starting from the available REVLANSYS FES adapted to the identified scenarios, and the consolidated GNC solutions. MIL regressions tests will be executed and used as reference cases for the analysis. TRL 4/5 will be achieved if GNC functionalities are correctly verified in SIL/PIL tests. Dedicated test scenarios shall be also defined to support the flight test campaign.
Perform flight tests to test the TAEM G&N functioning in partially relevant TAEM flight scenario, and the parafoil GNC functioning in a partially relevant D&L scenario, to achieve TRL 5/6 – A UAV test platform, specifically designed for high altitude flight tests, is made available by SC ATD Aerospace RS (ATD), subcontractor of DEIMOS for the proposed activity. The UAV shall be flown in conditions partially representative of the TAEM phase. Additionally, drop tests for the payload and parafoil system shall be performed. ATD will be responsible of the procurement of the parafoil test platform. The TAEM G&N and the parafoil GNC algorithms will be tailored to function in the flight test scenarios. The test platforms GNC solutions will include the final GNC hardware (HW) that is needed to carry out tests with units, I/F, performance, in partially representative conditions for the TAEM and parafoil D&L phases. Sensors that are not available within the test platforms sensors kit will have to be procured or emulated. TRL 5/6 will be achieved if G&N/GNC functionalities are verified in flight in the UAV/parafoil partially relevant environment.
Define a Technology Roadmap to further increase the TRL up to 6/7 in the near future – Lessons learned are derived, and next steps are identified to target the demonstration of the G&N solution in a fully relevant environment (TRL 6) and in operational environment (TRL 7).
