Deimos Sky Survey (DeSS) is an advanced complex equipped with the latest technology for the observation (surveillance and tracking) and catalogue of near-Earth space objects. These objects can be natural, such as near asteroids also known as NEOs (Near Earth Objects), or man-made, like satellites and space debris.

The centre includes three telescopes and all the hardware and software systems that are needed for their operation. It provides Elecnor Deimos with operational capabilities across all the stages of the space environment surveillance process:

  • Detection, observation of objects in the sky
  • Tracking and characterisation, in order to refine their orbits and know physical details
  • Identification, determining whether they are new discoveries or known objects
  • Cataloguing
  • Determination of risk of collision
  • Actions in order to prevent or mitigate the collision

Observatory

An observatory with four fast-moving, highly sensitive optical sensors with robotic operation. Its privileged location guarantees very dark skies and numerous available nights that lead to the high performance of the sensors.

Control Centre

A control centre for sensor monitoring, control and data processing at Deimos Engineering and Systems facilities in Puertollano, permanently connected to the observatory by a radio link that allows remote operation.

With Deimos Sky Survey, Elecnor Deimos consolidates its capacity in Space Surveillance and Tracking by incorporating its own dedicated telescopes, in addition to its expertise in the planning and management of all types of sensors.
